To Kill a Mockingbird is on at London's Gielgud Theatre
The Gielgud Theatre is on Shaftesbury Avenue, in London’s West-end and has been a dominant figure in the capital’s theatre scene, previous stellar productions include the hugely successful The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time and Daisy Pulls it Off. With such an established pedigree, the Gielgud Theatre is the perfect choice for the timely and heart-wrenching drama. Set in a racially-unjust 1930s Alabama, the story of the fight against racism and injustice is seen from the perspective of children – Scout and Jem Finch. To Kill a Mockingbird follows the arrest and trial of a Black man Tom Robinson who is falsely accused of raping a white woman. Their lawyer father Atticus attempts to defend him despite the odds, while Scout and Jem have to grow up and confront their own childish prejudices.
