“Akademi’s dance-theatre production toured India and the UK in 2018 and is available online until August 24. It is well worth a look. It tells a story of love, loss and sacrifice against a backdrop of WWI. Featuring new silent film footage, the piece is choreographed by Gary Clarke and features BBC Young Dancer 2015 finalist Vidya Patel. It is inspired by a 1915 short story by Chandradhar Sharma Guleri about a soldier in the trenches who keeps his secret promise to an unrequited love in the midst of conflict.”

A story of love, loss and sacrifice in World War I is told through archive and new silent film footage, an evocative sound-score and powerful choreography by Gary Clarke, featuring BBC Young Dancer 2015 finalist, Vidya Patel. Filmed by The Space.

Winner of the Herald Angel and the Lustrum awards and recipient of a host of five- and four-star reviews, Akademi’s The Troth can now be watched online from 7 August to 7 September.

Through dance, music and film, The Troth tells a story of love, loss and sacrifice against the backdrop of the First World War. The production toured in India and the UK in 2018 and was performed at prestigious venues including House of the President of India, Jaipur Literature Festival, Edinburgh Fringe Festival and Southbank Centre.
